The world’s most recognized authority on the power of purpose was the speaker at the Good Leadership Breakfast this past Friday. Richard Leider launched our eighth year – the largest attendance and the most immediately powerful programming so far. Here’s what guests said about their experience:
“The message about purpose was very timely – both for our society today, and for where I’m at in my career,” one guest commented. “I’m ready to go back to my job with a sense of urgency to discover my purpose,” remarked a guest whose been in the same role with the same company for more than twelve years.
Our purpose is spreading goodness

A third guest wrote on the back of her business card, “I immediately made the connection between ‘purpose’ and ‘goodness!’ Please keep those messages alive, because we need it!” That was a feel-good moment for me, because the mission of the Good Leadership Breakfast is to spread goodness through good leaders. As a consumer of Richard Leider’s message for many years, I knew a discussion about the power of purpose would lift our accelerated goodness conversation. Because his detailed coaching reached beyond our “why,” to “who” and “how.”

“Purpose needs to be a daily practice, that includes purposeful reflection and action to make your purpose come alive,” he shared. “Every day, you can invest just two minutes to ask yourself, who will feel my purpose today – and how will they feel my purpose?” You can watch the highlights here.
Find your purpose: grow and give
“If you haven’t yet discovered your purpose, I have two words that you can use as your purpose beginning today!” Richard offered. “You can begin right now thinking about how I will ‘grow’ today. And then how I will ‘give’ to others today.” With those two simple words: grow and give, the spirit of spreading goodness swept through the room, and spilled out into the grey Minnesota day.

For me, the insights came alive through my open introspection before the meeting. Spreading goodness requires we think of our “job” as more than a job. It’s a full mind-body-spirt commitment to building something special. Something that will last. Something that we will feel good about on every scorecard when we look back on our lives – something that comes from our purpose.
Good leaders invest the time to look inside themselves and discover their purpose. And they spend the rest of their lives growing and giving in ways that spread goodness.
Please share with me: In what ways are you growing and giving today?
