Society is changing all around us in amazing ways: How are you embracing the change?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Change is happening to you soon. We are forcing a new blogging-delivery technology on you next week because we think it\u00a0will help both you and me\u00a0spread goodness <\/em>easier. You won’t have a choice. It’s not really fair because, depending on the device you receive this blog on and its software, it could be frustrating. Change is happening all around you now, and in the near whether you like it or not.<\/p>\n

Spreading goodness: the facts<\/strong><\/p>\n

Along the journey of\u00a0spreading goodness,\u00a0<\/em>we’ve learned that change is often the trigger for a choice about goodness. \u00a0And through research we’ve identified a few things about the cultural context of the goodness by surveying thousands of people on excellence, generosity, fairness and positivity – the four Cornerstones of Goodness<\/a>.\u00a0Leaders tell us\u00a0rewarding excellence\u00a0<\/em>is the most present of these concepts in their lives, and\u00a0spreading positivity\u00a0<\/em>is what’s missing most often.<\/p>\n

The Forum on Workplace Inclusion<\/a> convenes each year to ignite change.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

But, through coaching and discussion, by far the most explosive and divisive concept is\u00a0promoting fairness. <\/em>When we feel excluded, targeted, or isolated we get angry. That’s why I am honest about the chaos we may have thrust upon you with the technology change. And why I’m promoting a special conference I think you should know about that\u00a0promotes fairness\u00a0<\/em>in the workplace. It’s called The Forum on Workplace Inclusion<\/a>, produced by the University of St. Thomas.<\/p>\n

Embracing\u00a0differences<\/strong><\/p>\n

My sister Heidi Batz Rogers<\/a> is a masterful programmer around the strategies for promoting fairness: gender, generational, sexual, ethnic and religious diversity are subjects she makes approachable. I’m grateful for her gift, and for the people who deliver the programming who help me understand how I can use my privileged, middle-aged white-male position in society to promote fairness. She created the theatrical, participative component of the Forum. And it’s exceptional.<\/p>\n

What I like about this particular conference<\/a> is the variety of programming, the cultural mosaic of people, and the sincerity of the message. Through music, theatrical performance and dramatic personal testimony, somehow our differences become approachable…curiously approachable instead of threatening.<\/p>\n

Embracing change<\/strong><\/p>\n

Unfortunately, we can still find leaders today who don’t believe workplace diversity and inclusion are\u00a0good ideas. Perhaps it’s because people like me still find it difficult to understand what to say\/what not to say and what to do\/not to do if you actually want to promote fairness. Because just like forcing our technology change on you, the momentum of societal change is being forced on us. And we have to decide:\u00a0will we retreat into our old devices or will we learn new skills to embrace the change and use it to spread goodness?<\/p>\n

We are never too old or too powerful to learn how to promote fairness in our lives. It’s about spreading goodness.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Good leaders go out of their way to learn about the changes that are happening around them in society. And they promote fairness as one of the Cornerstones of Goodness because goodness pays.<\/p>\n
