Skol Vikings!<\/strong><\/p>\n

Four years ago, I sent an email to Kevin Warren, then chief legal counsel of the Minnesota Vikings, asking if he would be a speaker at the Good Leadership Breakfast. My friend, Cathy Paper, \u00a0encouraged me to aim higher with the caliber of speakers…and Kevin was at the peak\u00a0of my aspirations.<\/p>\n

Last week, a team of coaches, interns and staff from Good Leadership toured U.S. Bank Stadium – the home of the Minnesota Vikings – as the guest of Kevin Warren and his Vikings’ colleagues. Our tour guide was J.P. Paul – a charming, handsome leader whose enthusiasm was contagious. After touring more than a thousand groups for more than a year, his enthusiasm was still electric.<\/p>\n

Out with the old, in with the new<\/strong><\/p>\n

The vision for the Minnesota Vikings and the character of the people building the team is so compelling to me, that I bought two season tickets. Section 227.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

The Hubert Humphrey Metrodome served its purpose as the center of the pinwheel in Minnesota sports: The Twins won two World Series, and we hosted a Super Bowl and the Final Four. And its protection from winter allowed the Minnesota State High School League to build the Prep Bowl, which crowned high school football champions indoors on Mall of America Field. Personally, I was only\u00a0sad to see the old dome go because 15 years ago my son Ben won a Lego building contest called The Great Create on the Astroturf<\/em> when he was 11 years old. But he’s long since passed through the Lego stage, and the Vikings are building the model franchise in the NFL.<\/p>\n

As coaches, we are only as good as the talent and intentions of our clients. \u00a0Our role is to challenge and encourage leaders\u00a0to work together better to produce at-peak possibilities; both at home and at work. With the Vikings, every move in the organization is scrutinized through the legislature, City Hall, and in the media. We are helping build the future by holding the Vikings leadership at their growing edge – it’s that perfect mix of relational and structural leadership that creates the strongest bond. Relational: the people around the table have to learn to care about each other both personally and professionally, and Structural: because they care…they build the plans and solve the most difficult problems together.<\/p>\n
