A colleague beautifully stated the obvious: \u201cI\u2019m more than 40 years old now and I\u2019m starting to understand that sometimes life is <em>hard.\u201d <\/em> Wow!\u2026a mind reader.<\/p>\n<p>Fast forward to January, 2012.\u00a0 I\u2019m crafting this message mid-air returning from a guys&#8217; golf trip in Naples, Florida.\u00a0 My &#8220;friends&#8221; score just got a booster shot.\u00a0 Seven red-blooded males battled over $20 bills on the skinny fairways of Naples National Golf Club. It&#8217;s wickedly difficult in a way that makes golf-lovers smile extra wide.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_1657\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1657\" style=\"width: 293px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/AstinMartinRapide-2.jpg\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1657\" title=\"AstinMartinRapide\" src=\"https:\/\/goodleadership.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/01\/AstinMartinRapide-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"293\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-1657\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Gotta love a state of the art, Aston Martin Rapide.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>We also ogled over Maseratis, Ferraris and one particular Aston Martin which drew intense envy.\u00a0 We stayed out way too late, laughed at octogenarian disco-dancers, drank one too many Tequila shots and freely absorbed the Florida sun.\u00a0 We might need a vacation to recover from our vacation.<\/p>\n<p>The most satisfying part of the boondoggle was the reassurance of knowing we share many of the same joys and challenges.\u00a0 Everyone has a story about where they came from, where they are today and where they are going.\u00a0 We&#8217;re all in love with our families, proud of what we have overcome and motivated by what&#8217;s ahead.\u00a0 With friends at the center, we shared fitness, fun and finances \u2013 and stories about family, faith and future.\u00a0 A Seven Fs clean sweep.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, sometimes life is hard.\u00a0 But as long as the sun rises the next day, our friends will give us a \u2018mulligan\u2019 on the first tee.<\/p>\n<p>Good leaders protect the time to relax, get away and soak up positive energy from people they admire. It doesn&#8217;t have to be Naples National &#8212; Starbucks or Perkins works too.\u00a0 Friends have a way of energizing one another.<\/p>\n<p>Please join me in congratulating the 2012 golfing Grand Champion, Phil.\u00a0 Happy Birthday to Dominski, and thanks to Mr. Koch for making it happen again this year.\u00a0 And the Oscar goes to my wife Melinda for encouraging me to go again this year.<\/p>\n<p>Drop me a note: how are you generating your personal positive energy these days?
