Last week, the Minnesota Twins’ best baseball pitcher turned down an opportunity to pitch one more inning to receive a $500,000 bonus. With this simple statement, he shined a light on the principles of fairness\u00a0and generosity. “I didn’t think it was right,”<\/em> he said with unfamiliar humility. In the context of all the negativity and greed we consume from professional athletes, his story<\/a> is inspiring.<\/p>\n

Wouldn’t it be fun to dream about all the good you could do with half a million smackers? For now…I’m dreaming about a hundred thousand. Here’s why:<\/p>\n

Will you please donate online this month to the Bucket of Good Will? We want to exceed $100,000 collected for charities at the Good Leadership Breakfast on Friday, October 17.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

Since the early days of the Good Leadership Breakfast Series, Mark Bergman and I have teamed together to raise money for local charities. We re-named his best invention from the HANDy Paint Pail to the Bucket of Goodwill<\/a> for the purposes of generous fundraising. We raised $173 that first meeting and Mark suggested: “Why don’t I match it!?”\u00a0 To date, we’ve collected more than $93,000. Those dollars have been shared with more than 30 charities who are spreading goodness.<\/p>\n

Unlike Phil Hughes, we’re not asking you to turn down a bonus.\u00a0 We’re giving you the opportunity of a lifetime: donate $100 to the Bucket of Good Will<\/a> and be a part of history. Your donation will be matched and your generosity will grow to more than $100,000.<\/p>\n

Here’s another fact: more than half of my blog readers live outside the Minneapolis\/St. Paul area. It’s obvious why readers in Greater Minnesota, Los Angeles, Chicago, Milwaukee, Texas, and New York can’t attend the Good Leadership Breakfast.
